I recently met a young girl at a school thing I was doing. At the end of the session she plucked up enough courage to speak to me about problems she had been having with anxiety since she was very young.

These anxiety attacks had become crippling and she had been prescribed medication.

I had some time so worked with her for about half an hour, I’d been wondering how she got on as I’d asked her to email me and let me know. I thought she’d forgotten until I got this email the other day;

“Hi Brian,

Sorry about the late reply I have been really busy recently because of exams.

Now I am a lot more open minded and happier about coping with exams. I have been able to study at my best and much better than ever before as I am more relaxed and calm. Been going in to exams have been easier as I’ve stopped fidgeting which used to get me worked up. Since that day with you I have had no more panic attacks or been close to one. I no longer feel the need to take my anxiety tablets which now remain in the back of my cupboard. When I feel like I’m starting to slip back in to old ways and feel awful about myself (appearance and confidence) I just stop what I’m doing for a few minutes and breathe and erase those thoughts as best as I can before starting work again. This boost helped me get a Saturday job a few weeks ago which has also helped with my confidence as I am able to talk to people more easily.

Thank you so much for all your help and for checking up on me, I am so grateful for what you have done and won’t forget it.”

Half an hour. It’s amazing what can be achieved when you are open to change.
